Kanchanjunga Express Collides with Goods Train in West Bengal, Leaving At Least 15 Dead

At least 15 people were killed and over 60 injured when a goods train collided with the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express near Rangapani station in West Bengal on Train Accident Today
The accident occurred around 8:55 am, according to railway officials. The goods train is believed to have disregarded a signal, causing it to ram into the passenger train from behind. Three coaches of the Kanchanjunga Express were derailed in the crash.
Loco-Pilot, Assistant, and Guard Among Fatalities
Officials reported that the loco-pilot and his assistant, along with the guard of the passenger train, were among those killed.
Rescue Efforts Underway
Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) along with ambulances were rushed to the scene to assist the injured. The injured are being treated at nearby hospitals.
Train Diversions Due to Accident
The accident has caused significant disruption to train services in the area. At least 10 other trains have been diverted due to the wreckage on the tracks.

The Kanchanjunga Express is a popular train route for tourists traveling to Darjeeling. The train traverses the busy Chicken’s Neck Corridor, a vital link connecting the Northeast with the rest of India.
Prime Minister Offers Condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. “Rescue operations are underway to assist the affected,” the PM wrote on Twitter, adding that he had spoken with officials to take stock of the situation.
